Ice Cream Parlor Ruminations

Recently, your blogger observed a group of people ordering scoops of ice cream at a local parlor (UDF- Clifton & Ludlow).

Is it weird that UDF sells ice cream in these conditions? The air temperature at the time of the observation was 18F. Cholesterol aside, wouldn't the temperatures of the food and the air combined keep a rational person from going for a banana split? Shouldn't these "dairy freaks" just order a cup of black coffee and switch back to the nipple when we break 70F?
